Sammy Applegate is a composer and an award winning filmmaker. She grew up in Lawrence, Kansas where she developed a passion for both music and film. She began learning the piano at the age of 6 before taking up percussion at the age of 10. After graduating high school, Sammy became an active member in the local film community in Lawrence and Kansas City working various crew positions for several feature films, shorts, commercials, as well as directing a few short films of her own. In 2007 she graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Film. In 2008 she moved to Seattle to study under two-time Emmy award winning composer Hummie Mann through the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program. She was accepted into the inaugural class of the Seattle Film Institute’s one year masters degree program (the only one year masters degree in music composition for film and media available in the United States) and became the first woman to earn a Masters of Music Composition for Film from the program. Currently she is a member of the RPM music prep team and an assistant to Emmy award winning composer Stephen T. Cavit, in addition to pursuing a career in composing for film and television.
