What's in a Name?

I feel as though it would be in everyone's best interest, including my own, if I explain the orgin of the name "Sammy Applegate". No, "Sammy Applegate" is not my real name. "Sammy" is more of a persona or alterego of mine. It is a pen name, stage name, alias, whatever you want to call it.
The name is actually a combination of two influences. "Applegate" comes from the character of Mr. Applegate from the musical Damn Yankees. It was a musical that I grew up with as a kid and I always loved the character. Mr. Applegate, for those who are unfamiliar with the musical, was the assumed name of the devil who was brilliantly portrayed by Ray Walston in the film version. Although certain people would argue with this, I did not choose the name Applegate because I'm into devil worship or Satanic rituals or anything along those lines. I merely liked the character and his cunning ways.
Some of you may remember my old website and production company name "Mister Applegate". Well, I lost the name not on my own free will. The company I originally registered the domain name at would not let me renew it (stay away from enom.com). But, I decided that it was probably for the best. There had been quite a lot of confusion surrounding the name. People either thought that I was male, that I wanted to be male or that I was super butch. None of those are true. I am female, straight and I am not interested in a sex change operation. So, the "Mister" was dropped completely from my production name. For those of you who were around and actually remember the first three showings of The Daily Lives of Dummies you may remember that it was originally made as an "Applegate Production", it wasn't until the film was shown at the Comedy Arts Festival that it changed to "Mister Applegate".
The name "Sammy" is a reference that I will never reveal. Some people out there might actually know where it comes from, but, for everyone else, I'll just leave you guessing. It's more fun that way... well, fun for me at least.
So, "Sammy Applegate" is not my real name, nor is it some sort of secret identity. I'm not a superhero and my actual identity is not some big mystery. It's really not even that hard to figure out my real name. I don't think that I'll ever legally change my name, I just might gradually switch over into Sammy Applegate for film, music and writing.
